Chrysocolla's
make up is hydrated copper silicate, a mineral that forms
in the oxidation areas
of copper ore. It is associated with minerals like quartz,
limonite, azurite, malachite, cuprite, and other secondary copper
inclusive minerals. Chrysocolla
has an attractive blue-green color with a hardness of 2.5 to
3.5. Because of its color, it is sometimes confused with
turquoise. The
name comes from the Greek word 'chrysos' (gold),
and 'kolla' (glue),
in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Can
be found in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Pennsylvania in the United
States. Around the world... Mexico, Brazil, Israel and the Republic of Congo.
